Pemanfaatan Limbah Organik Rumah Tangga Menjadi Pupuk Kompos sebagai Upaya Mendukung Pengelolaan Sampah Berkelanjutan

The rising volume of household organic waste poses an environmental management challenge, as much of this waste remains underutilized. One strategy to address this issue is to process organic waste into compost. This initiative aims to utilize vegetable scraps, dried leaves, and organic food waste as raw materials for composting, while also demonstrating a simple, eco-friendly waste management practice. The methodology involved material preparation, organic waste sorting, shredding, mixing with burnt soil and an EM4 solution (as a bioactivator), the composting process, maintenance through periodic turning, and monitoring changes in compost characteristics until maturity was reached. The results indicate that the organic waste decomposed effectively, yielding compost that was dark brown-black in color, crumbly in texture, and had an earthy aroma. These characteristics confirm the compost's suitability for use as organic fertilizer. Beyond producing a useful product, this activity fostered an understanding of the importance of repurposing organic waste to reduce household waste generation. Thus, composting serves as a waste management alternative that is easy to implement, economically valuable, and supportive of a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
